City of Sheridan officials learned of a hit to a water main near the 5th Street bridge along the bike path late Tuesday afternoon. Utilities Director Dan Miller says that the incident may have caused some temporary water pressure issues for residents.

Freudenthal Discusses State and Federal Issues

During his bi-monthly media conference Tuesday, Governor Dave Freudenthal discussed state and federal issues. Last week Freudenthal declined the first of what is expected to be dozens of federal health care reform grants, stating the grant was not in Wyoming’s best interests.

The 29th annual fireworks extravaganza at the Ucross Foundation will take place this Saturday. Ucross President Sharon Dynak says the evening will begin at 5 o'clock with an art gallery opening and meet and greet with the artists.

Council Approves Community Assessment Resolution

The Sheridan City Council held a special meeting Tuesday, where they approved a resolution allowing the City to participate in Phase Two of the Wyoming Rural Development Council's Community Assessment Program. Phase One of the assessment took place in early 2004, when 850 residents were interviewed face-to-face about needs within the community.

Andrew Joy Receives Sentence

Andrew Joy receives 1 to 5 years probation for first-time offense.

Former Sheridan firefighter Andrew Joy, age 31, received Deferred Prosecution and one to five years probation per terms of a plea agreement in 4th Judicial District Court this morning. Joy had plead guilty to one count of Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Hydrocodone on April 22nd.

Suicide Prevention "Out of the Darkness" Walk

Teams are being organized for a suicide prevention and awareness "Out of the Darkness" walk scheduled for September 11th in Sheridan.

Suicide is a national health problem that takes an enormous toll on family, friends, co-workers and the entire community. In recent years, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has established community walks under the banner “Out of the Darkness.”
