With the seasonal flu season just around the corner, Sheridan County Health officials are gearing up for another busy year of immunizations. This year of course, much of the discussion about influenza is focused on the swine flu. The Wyoming Department of Health reports that there are 179 laboratory confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus and one reported death.

The 2009 Health Fair is this Saturday at Sheridan College. If you took part in this year's blood draw at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, it's a perfect opportunity to have medical professionals go over those results with you.

The 11th Annual Native American Music Awards will be held October 3rd at the Seneca Entertainment Center in the Seneca Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, New York. In the audience will be Sheridan's Gary Small & the Coyote Brothers, who have been nominated for two "Nammy's" -- the Indian version of the Grammys.

The Brundage Lane reconstruction project is still underway and involves the cooperation of the City of Sheridan, Sheridan County, and the Wyoming Department of Transportation. Liquor license renewals come due at the end of the calendar year in the City of Sheridan. The City starts the renewal process in September to make sure that all paperwork is returned in time for City Council action in November.

Sheridan College is hosting the Wyoming State Legislature’s Joint Labor, Health and Social Services Interim Committee meeting today. The committee will discuss the status of Federal stimulus funding as well as review the Medicaid provider reimbursement rates.
