The Wyoming Special Olympics begin this Thursday in Cheyenne. The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office has participated in the Torch Run leading up to the games for the past several years. Sheridan County Sheriff Dave Hofmeier traditionally rides the first leg of the relay.

This weekend many Sheridan hotels were full with soccer players and their families. 5 years ago, a soccer tournament was put together having 86 teams; now, the Mars Soccer Cup has over 100 teams from all over Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota. Mars Candy has been the major sponsor for the event, and it has been held at the Big Horn Events Center for all five years.
The U.S. House Natural Resources Committee is considering a bill that would designate nearly 24 million acres of land across 5 states as wilderness area. Over 5 million acres would be affected in Wyoming, alone. The bill’s main sponsor is Democratic Representative Carolyn Maloney of New York.
